The trick is in breathing
You may have heard this many times. Count to 10 and take a breath. Is it a load of rubbish or does it work?
Yes, is the simple answer however much of breathing is about how you do it. This simple technique can help you to control your breathing and thus help to calm yourself.
Take a slow breath in for the count of 1 and then breathe out slowly for the count of 2. The in breath is moderate not deep but the out breath is slower. Do this 2 to 3 times breathing normally for a few breaths in-between each slower in breath. Then assess how you feel. If you wish to repeat leave it a minute and then repeat. Before repeating check you don't feel too light headed, if you do then leave longer than a minute before repeating. This should help to introduce a more relaxed state.
Tip: Take your time with this technique, be aware of how you physically feel. If you feel light headed then either stop or take a break.
